Lara is the founder and CEO of Sky’s the Limit Youth Organization. Having grown up in a family surrounded by computers and access to digital information, Lara realized early on that a computer was a valuable resource that offered limitless opportunities. Passionate about technology and its importance in education, Lara felt it was her calling to offer a solution to the Digital Divide in Canada. Lara is responsible for STL operations, implementation, outreach, administration, sourcing of donors and fund development. Targeting students in under-resourced areas, Lara works hand-in-hand with other non-profit organizations to gain first-hand knowledge of which students legitimately require computers. When a student is identified as a potential recipient, Lara stops at nothing until a computer is delivered into his or her hands.
A graduate of Concordia University in 1995, Lara’s previous career included 10 years of experience in Internet/Intranet content creation and management, web site coordination and project management, working for Bell Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy.
Lara, a full-time volunteer, is a 2008 FLARE Volunteer Award winner, (read Lara’s acceptance speech), an AronImage Award 2008 winner, a Harlequin “More than Words” 2009 winner and the winner of a Pricewaterhouse Coopers Individual Leadership Grant for 2008.
